facts from both sides while conducting my research and found out a couple things. One, the
people who support leaving the mascots as they are, seemed to be extremely rude and
uneducated on the issue. They reacted by calling the other arguments stupid and saying
derogatory things to those who held the opposite view. Second, those who supported changing
the racist mascots seemed to be a lot more educated on the issue and were more willing to
compromise to start on a road towards progression.
2. The term “Redskin” should be banned from sports mascots and the Washington Redskins
should change their name. However, teams such as the Cleveland Indians, Florida State
Seminoles, or the Atlanta Braves should not be forced to do so. I do not think these names have a
negative meaning or representation of Native Americans.
3. For my final project I am changing the name of the Washington Redskins to the Washington
Pigskins and creating prototype jerseys for the Pigskins. The new colors will be white, brown
and yellow and the logo will be a football. I will eliminate the color red, the name Redskins and
the Native American logo to show that the Redskins are no longer a part of the Washington
football organization. My pictures will be just like the ones Nike does when they unveil a new
jersey. The point of this is to create the sense that these jerseys are being unveiled and will be put
into use by the Washington Pigskins.
